September is the Global Awareness Month for Prostate Cancer, and Climbers Against Cancer are collaborating with Prostate Cancer Research to support their mission: No man left behind – a world free from the impact of prostate cancer.
The awareness colour for Prostate Cancer is Blue, so from September right through until the end of the year, all the profits from every blue item of CAC gear will be donated to a special collaborative project set up between CAC and PCR. This will explore how we can support people affected by prostate cancer or those who are at risk to get moving in a way that works for them, so that more people can enjoy the health benefits of exercise. This disease affects over 1.4 million people worldwide each year, and over 50,000 in the UK alone, so as part of our 10th Anniversary Celebrations we’re committed to donating at least £5,000 to move this forwards. During the course of the month we will also be posting important information to help communicate risk factors and actions you can take, as a part of our commitment to raising awareness in the climbing community and beyond.
“We all know that exercise is important, but life can make it very difficult to get moving, especially when you’re trying to get a little but fitter for the first time, or the first time in a long time. We’re delighted to be teaming up with Climbers Against Cancer to get a real understanding of the things that make exercise difficult for prostate cancer patients, and to hopefully start testing some solutions that work to support people to clear those hurdles.” Dr Naomi Elster, Director of Research and Communications.
