CAC Supporting Melanoma UK for May Skin Cancer Awareness Month

29th April 2024

Categories CAC News Donations

May is Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and Climbers Against Cancer are collaborating with Melanoma UK  to to support their mission to increase the UK’s awareness of melanoma, and its prevention through education and awareness. Early diagnosis of skin cancer – it’s estimated that up to a massive 90% of cases could be cured if diagnosed early enough.

The awareness colour for Melanoma and Skin Cancer is Black, so from May right through until the end of July, all the profits from the sale of every black and grey item of CAC gear will be donated to Melanoma UK. Skin cancer and Melanoma are one of the most common forms of cancer in the UK. Around 16,000 people are diagnosed with melanoma (and over 250,000 with non-melanoma skin cancer) every year in the UK, and 1 in 5 will develop a form of skin cancer at least once in their lifetime. During the course of the month we will also be posting important information to help communicate risk factors and actions you can take, as a part of our commitment to raising awareness in the climbing community and beyond, which is especially important as climbing is a largely outdoors sport, and exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun is the biggest risk factor.

Below you can see a few examples of  the items we have in black (and grey) in the CAC range:
