“My brother Greg died of NUT midline Carcinoma in July 2014 and I wanted to do something to mark his death. In November 2016 my son Tomas and I came up with idea of a charity climb and chose the iconic Old Man of Hoy in Orkney Islands. Sadly in December 2016 my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian cancer and is life limited but making a good fight of it so this has added significance for us.
In August 2017 we meet up with our guides Mike Pescod and Donald King along with fellow climber Kelvin Joy and film crew Fiann and Charlie. The next five days gave us an amazing experience of Scotland as we climbed the 3 Tom Patey sea stacks: Old Man of Hoy, Am Buachaille and Old Man of Stoer. Tomas is, to the best of our research, the youngest person to climb all three. He’s 12 years old. We saw great climbing, if a little chossy at times, great land and sea scapes, seals, fulmers (vomit included) and even a pod of 4 Orcas.
We have raised about £1500 and we are very grateful to all of our supporters.”
