Your CAC Trustees have been looking back on 2023, and WHAT A YEAR! Like any organisation (even a tiny one like Climbers Against Cancer) it takes a while to pull together the official charity accounts, but a first look at the numbers from last year are AMAZING! Thanks to the generosity and commitment of our wonderful CAC Community, we’ve raised over £46,000 through your donations and fundraising efforts. That’s before we even take in to account the profits from sales of our lovely CAC goodies, and the support we receive from our wonderful Partners and CAC centres.

Here’s a look back at a few of the highlights from last year  from fundraising through the JustGiving platform alone (with apologies to anyone we’ve missed). Click on the photos to read more about these great efforts on their JustGiving pages – you can still support a number of them:

Dave Douglas ran from Lands End to John O’ Groats – over 1,000 miles of running over five weeks, at an average of 33 miles per day

Isaac Small ran the Endurancelife Exmoor Marathon in memory of his good friend Brendan Suggate

Young climbing athletes and their families from across the UK raised funds in recognition of the 23 years of incredible volunteer service by Scott Forsyth as a Competition Coordinator and Chief Judge for both ClimbScotland and GB Climbing.

Daniel and Luca Boswell undertook a Welsh 3 Peaks Challenge – to climb the 3 highest mountains in Wales, in just 24 hours!

Gemma and Helen Skilton and team ran the Manchester marathon in April, just over a year after losing Timbo to prostate cancer, raising money for a charity that Timbo passionately supported, being a huge climbing fan himself.

Polly Sutton and her Dad Benjamin completed the unique ‘Hanger Challenge’ cycling between the Hanger walls in Swansea, Exeter and Plymouth by tandem over five days.

Jess Emmins and Team are climbing the equivalent of the height of Everest on an indoor wall – check out her page for the latest updates!

Chris Cox, Al Groome, John Sutherland and Gerald Teivas-White undertook their ‘Vertical Miles’ challenge, climbing the indoor boulder routes at The Project Climbing Centre in Poole for a solid 12 hours.

Rosie Atkinson (aged 9) completed 100 climbs in one day as quickly as possible, to replicate ascending the equivalent on El Cap. Rosie chose El Cap after watching Alex Honnold complete his free solo.

Carmine De Grandis has accomplished extraordinary feats with his Accordion on the Mountains, including his “Highest Christmas Carols with Accordion” project and running the Dragon’s Back Race!

Felicity Wilderspin (aged 11) is Climbing the Height of Everest (on lead!) at her local climbing wall

Ross and Adam undertook the arduous lap ultramarathon around Lake Windermere; a 47 miles route of which 95% is on trails

Andrew and Jeanette Wilkinson came up with a ’60 year bash’ fundraiser to celebrate a big birthday whilst climbing sports routes to raise funds.

Caitlin Horan organised a Birthday Fundraiser to ‘celebrate’ a Big Birthday in a Great Cause!

Two of Jurrasic Ridge’s instructor team have volunteered to spend 24 hours in our Black Diamond Portaledge, 9 metres off the ground

Steven Collinge and three other Plumbase Managers climbed Snowdon

A huge thank you to everyone who has ever organised a fundraiser for Climbers Against Cancer, and not forgetting their generous friends and family who have donated so kindly! And of course our wonderful supporters who click the ‘Donate’ button to help us fund research and other interventions. THANK YOU!!!
