LIFE ALWAYS DESERVES TO BE LIVED

By MATTEO PIRANI

I’m from Italy, I was born in Turin in 1995, I am 26 years old. I suffer from hemiparesis on the left side of the body left in me as a complication of a brain cancer which I fell ill at the age of 6. In 2001, immediately after the diagnosis, I was treated at the Oncohematology and Neurosurgery center of the Regina Margherita hospital in Turin and over the years I have faced several cycles of chemotherapy, radio and surgical interventions … but the desire to succeed has always been a lot! At 15, when it seemed that the disease had taken over, thanks to a last and desperate surgical intervention I was “taken by the hair and pulled to safety”. After this last episode of relapse of the disease it seemed I never had to walk again; I went through a long rehabilitation process and after some time, in 2012, to try to strengthen the muscles and regain balance I approached the sport of CLIMBING, almost as a challenge with myself and with the disease. Gradually I discovered that this discipline is not only a wonderful Sport but also a philosophy of life. Through CLIMBING I won my challenge: not only I started walking again, but now I also climb and, according to my coaches, also fairly well … I’m registered with Fasi (Italian Sports Climbing Federation) since 2018 and I am part of the group of Italian Paraclimb Athletes and I also started competing. In 2018 and 2019 I won the Bronze Medal at the Italian Championships and now my dream is to get the top step of the podium with the Gold Medal and wear the italian national jersey. In any case, now I can say that through Climbing I won my challenge!
